Memphis Depay has insisted he is “happy” at Manchester United despite his indifferent start to the campaign.
The Dutchman came to Old Trafford this summer with much fanfare surrounding him but he has failed to make a real impact as of yet, particularly in the Premier League.
Despite this, Louis van Gaal has continued to include Memphis in the starting XI, although he was hauled off at half time against Arsenal last weekend.
Memphis admitted he is still getting used to the increased workload at United.
“In Manchester I play a lot of games. There are very few days that I can rest out,” he said.
“On training days you are mainly concerned with conditioning. It’s heavy, two games a week, always at a high level. Because of that, my body still has to get used to it all. I’m trying in my career to take many steps. I think this was the right step, and I’m happy in Manchester.”
Memphis is far from the finished product and it was a big ask for him to hit the ground running at United, particularly as he is playing on the wing. However, supporters have seen with Anthony Martial that it is possible for a young player to make an impact. Memphis’ performances will have to improve if he wants to keep his place in the first-team.
