Manchester United striker Anthony Martial could be set to make his first start for the French national team following an injury to Karim Benzema.
The Real Madrid forward is the first-choice striker for the national side but he suffered a hamstring injury in Les Bleus 4-0 victory over Armenia on Thursday.
Benzema bagged two goals in the friendly, the second coming after he was played in behind the defence by Martial.
However, after the game, the French Football Federation confirmed that Benzema had suffered a grade one tear in his hamstring, meaning he will miss approximately two to three weeks of action and is certainly out of France’s game against Denmark on Sunday.
It could be the opportunity that Martial needs to stake a claim for a place in the side. The 19-year-old has been starting up front for Man United, leading the line for the Reds. He is yet to make his full international debut and the injury to Benzema could mean he starts the game against Denmark.
Martial has impressed his manager, Didier Deschamps and will want to be in contention for a place in the squad when the European Championships come around next summer. France have qualified for the tournament as hosts but have a whole host of friendlies in the build-up to the tournament.
Starting Sunday, Martial will hope to show Deschamps what he is all about and continue his good form for United with a stellar display for his national team.
