Anthony Martial might have grabbed a wonderful assist for France against Armenia but he has come under some criticism for his overall performance.
Get Football News France, who were first to the Martial news as his move developed this summer, watched the game and in their player ratings gave Martial a 5.5 out of 10 with the following explanation:
“Anthony Martial – 5.5: Looked mostly bewildered and conservative during his half an hour on the pitch. Made a series of poor passing decisions and insisted for the most part on hugging the left-hand touchline. Not much adventure to his game aside from dumbfounding an Armenian defender in the middle of the pitch before dribbling to the tune of 30 metres and then supplying a good pass to Benzema. Looked a little confused and intimidated for Les Bleus tonight.”
For a player who has only made three appearances from the bench for France, you wouldn’t be overly surprised if he was somewhat intimidated by the situation. However, what we’ve seen from him so far at Manchester United is that pressure, nor the occasion, seem to be a hinderance or a burden for Martial.
Instead, he seemingly thrives on that sort of situation and if Martial can even grab assists when he’s playing a 5.5/10, that’s saying something in itself.
We’re hoping to see Martial make his full France debut in their other game during the international break on Sunday night against Denmark and if getting an assist in an overall performance is anything go by, he’ll get on just fine if Didier Deschamps give him an opportunity.
