Manchester United reignite interest in Southampton’s Sadio Mane

Manchester United are set to reignite their interest in Southampton forward Sadio Mane, according to reports in Spain.

Man United were heavily linked with a move for Mane towards the end of the summer transfer window, with reports suggesting that the Reds had made a bid for Mane which Southampton rejected.

A move never materialised but Mane has been hugely impressive since the start of the campaign.

The 23-year-old put in a particularly good performance against Chelsea when the Saints cruised to a 3-1 victory at the home of the champions. It could be that display that is adding fuel to the fire where Mane to United rumours are concerned.

The report from Fichajes in Spain claims that Louis van Gaal ‘insists’ that United try and secure the services of the Senegalese forward. After missing out on the signing of Pedro to Chelsea in the summer, the manager has been clear that he wants to sign someone with ‘speed and creativity’.

Mane certainly fits the bill and, at just 23, could have a bright future ahead of him. United’s attack has looked limp at times this season and a player like Mane would almost certainly add some flair to the forward line.

Southampton seemed determined to hold onto their star man but the Saints have struggled to keep ahold of their big names in recent times. It could give United a major boost in their attempts to sign Mane and supporters of the club would be more than happy to have the forward at Old Trafford.
