Paddy McNair is set to spend another night in hospital with a rib injury he sustained on international duty with Northern Ireland.
It will be the third night which McNair has had to spend in hospital but there is an air of caution around rib injuries and the dangers they pose, so it might be an element of precaution keeping him in hospital rather than letting him fly due to the pressure changes.
On the night he suffered the injury, McNair continued playing for Northern Ireland and wasn’t actually taken off until the second half so it is somewhat strange to see him being kept in hospital for three nights but as we said previously, it might be the safest option in the long-term.

McNair started the final two consecutive games for Northern Ireland at right-back in their Euro 2016 qualifiers and actually only made his full debut in this international break, so his stature is growing with his country.
Louis van Gaal has used McNair sparingly this year but last season he stepped in at centre-back and was very impressive but that role is occupied at the moment for Manchester United. However, there could be an opening at right-back if Matteo Darmian ends up becoming the replacement for Luke Shaw this season at left-back.
