Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that John Stones “should be ready” to face Manchester United this weekend.
The England international had been sidelined with a knee injury which kept him out of successive games against West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool over the past two weeks but he now looks to be approaching full fitness for when Everton host Man United at Goodison Park.
Stones has impressed as of late with some standout performances and his return will be a boost for Everton.
Speaking about Stones’ injury, Martinez said: “I think he should be ready. Remember that John has been having a lot of quality work at Finch Farm and it will be a matter of just getting that match fitness.
“We have still got very three important days ahead of that fixture in terms of preparation so we’ll get a better idea on Friday of where John is. I would say medically he is ready now. He’s been joining the group and from a medical point of view I don’t think there is a concern or worry.”
United need a positive result against Everton following the humiliating 3-0 defeat against Arsenal last time out. Regardless of Stones’ qualities, the defender is only 21 years old, and United luckily possess a wealth of attacking talent they can draw upon to take advantage of the youngster’s relative inexperience.
