Denmark defender Simon Kjaer has admitted that Manchester United’s Anthony Martial was “very, very hard to mark” in his side’s game against France last weekend.
Martial, making his first start for France, put in a lively display in Copenhagen and registered an assist for Olivier Giroud’s strike.
The 19-year-old really has shot to prominence following some superb displays for Man United and the French national side and Kjaer, now playing for Fenerbahce but formerly of Lille, reacted with surprise when he learnt Martial’s age.
“He’s really good for 19. I didn’t know him when I was in France,” Kjaer said.
“He’s very, very hard to mark because he knows how to do a lot of things. Not only is he quick, but he’s also technically good.”
Martial is yet to have a bad game for United after arriving at Old Trafford on transfer deadline day.
Even in United’s 3-0 defeat against Arsenal last time out, the youngster was encouraging and always looked to get himself on the ball. Martial’s performances have completely belied his age and the sky really is the limit in terms of what he can achieve.
