Thiago Alcantara has hailed the “magnificent” David de Gea following the keeper’s superb performance in Spain’s 1-0 win over Ukraine on Monday.
Vincent Del Bosque has largely preferred to use Iker Casillas in-between the sticks for La Roja in recent years but he handed De Gea a starting role in Kiev.
The Manchester United stopper responded by producing a string of superb saves to deny the hosts.
Bayern Munich’s Alcantara was full of praise for De Gea following the clash.
“The word sensational doesn’t do De Gea’s performance justice,” he said.
“He was magnificent and saved everything that came his way.”
De Gea has been in superb form for Man United for well over 18 months now but he continues to be overlooked by Del Bosque for the national side. Perhaps his performance against Ukraine will convince the veteran manager of his quality ahead of the European Championships in France next summer.
