Van Persie left Man United this summer and made the move to Fenerbahce in Turkey, where things haven’t quite gone to plan.
Holland’s record goalscorer has struggled to force his way into the team, having to be content with a place on the bench for the majority of the side’s games.
The 32-year-old is trying to get his career back on track. Since winning the Premier League with United in 2013, van Persie has struggled to find the form that lead the Reds to their 20th title.
He was deemed surplus to requirements at United this year but his move to Fenerbahce does not seem to have worked out, as he is evidently unhappy in Istanbul.
A move to Barcelona could be van Persie’s swansong and may even suit the sort of football he is playing now. Robert Fernandez, the technical secretary of Barcelona, reportedly watched van Persie play for Holland this week. The striker doesn’t have the pace he once used to but there is no denying his finishing ability and his brilliant positional play.
At the Nou Camp, van Persie could be deployed in a role that sees him have the opportunity to simply finish moves off, given the vast amounts of talent in the Barcelona squad. He is said to be open to a move but he will have to be happy with a place on the bench as it is highly unlikely that he can displace one of Neymar, Luis Suarez or Lionel Messi from the team. But a move in January could be the perfect move for van Persie’s career.
