Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that his team respect Manchester United ahead of the clash between the two teams at Goodison Park this weekend.
Man United are going into the game on the back of a dismal performance against Arsenal, when they lost 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium before the international break.
United went into that weekend as Premier League leaders but conceded three goals in the opening 20 minutes and the loss saw them fall to third in the table. United have started the season well and Martinez is aware that they pose a huge threat.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, the Spaniard said: “We respect this Manchester United side. When they hit top spot a few weeks ago it was a statement.
“But we want to be as good as we can. They have got a settled starting eleven. Apart from the first half hour against Arsenal they have been very strong.”
United will be desperate for a victory in order to keep the pressure on Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table. Louis van Gaal‘s men are currently two points behind their city rivals and they know a win at Everton would help their title charge.
United have struggled at Goodison Park in recent years and were comprehensively beaten 3-0 there last year and the side will know they cannot afford a repeat performance. United have a tough run of fixtures coming up including a trip to Crystal Palace and a visit from City and they will want to be within touching distance of their rivals when the Sky Blues come to Old Trafford at the end of the month.
