Neymar’s father has revealed that Manchester United made an unsuccessful bid for his son this summer.
Man United were linked with Barcelona forward Neymar in the final weeks of the transfer window.
Along with Neymar, who has 88 goals in all competitions since joining Barcelona, United were said to be interested in the likes of Thomas Muller and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Neymar’s father admitted that United did make an unsuccessful bid for the Brazilian and added that their interest fell away when the bid was knocked back.
“Man United’s offer came to Barca and they told us they won’t sell. They asked if we were interested, but it wasn’t the case.” Neymar Snr said.
“Barcelona does not sell Neymar, because he has a three-year contract. It was a project of Manchester United, only to not have this proposal anymore. It fell behind.”
United had been strongly linked with a move for Pedro and the Neymar reports only came after the former had chosen to join Chelsea instead. As a result, the links with Neymar smacked of United trying to save face. It was always unlikely that Barcelona would let go of the Brazilian given that they are currently under a transfer ban.
