Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague feels Cristiano Ronaldo could be on his way to Paris Saint Germain in the near future.
Ronaldo is on his way to becoming Real Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer, overtaking Raul, but time could be up on his Los Blancos career. The 30-year-old joined the club in 2009 moving from Manchester United and there has always been a hope amongst Reds fans that Ronaldo could someday return to Old Trafford.
There have been reports in the past that Man United have attempted to sign Ronaldo but no transfer has ever been close to materialising. Instead, Balague feels the winger is on his way to the French capital.
The Sky Sports pundit wrote: “He can physically play until he is 40, but there is a strategy in place from his people.
“It looks like this could be the last season of Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid. It also looks as though Real Madrid aren’t completely unhappy that this is the case. This sounds amazing, when you look at the records he’s gained – probably the best goalscorer in their history.”
It would be a disaster for United fans if Ronaldo does choose to leave Madrid and Manchester is not his next destination. Unfortunately, Balague feels that this is the case.
He added: “But perhaps Real Madrid believe he has peaked and I’ve got the impression these people are feeling PSG will be the best solution. Be it this summer or next summer, I don’t think he will be at Real Madrid that long.”
If Balague is correct, one would assume that PSG would have to pay a monumental fee to secure the services of the two-time Ballon d’Or winner. United would have to wonder whether they are willing to pay such a huge price for a player who will be 31-years-old at the time.
