Louis van Gaal says he won’t change his team much against CSKA Moscow

Louis van Gaal has no intention of making wholesale changes to his Manchester United team for Wednesday night’s UEFA Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow.

A convincing 3-0 win over Everton was one of Man United’s best performances this season and the team selection for that game saw some changes from the team which was humiliated by Arsenal, including the return of Ander Herrera and Marcos Rojo.

Having changed his team plenty of times in the past, it wouldn’t have been the biggest surprise to see van Gaal change his team up but the boss has made it clear he wants to avoid tampering after the Everton result.

“Now they have played very well, so I am not stupid, I won’t change too much on Wednesday,” he said.

For the likes of Herrera and Rojo it’s certainly good news to hear from van Gaal that he wants to stick with his winning team as much as he can. Both players were hugely influential in the 3-0 win and will now be full of confidence, so hopefully that can translate into another strong performance against CSKA Moscow.

The difficulty lies in the fact we play Manchester City only a few days later at Old Trafford, so van Gaal may have to rotate in order to keep his players as fit as possible. Sir Alex Ferguson was a master of refreshing the squad whilst not losing quality and with big games coming in quick succession, van Gaal will have to show his forte in that regard.
