Barcelona forward Neymar has confirmed that he will sign a new contract at the club despite reported interest from Manchester United.
The Brazilian revealed that he is in the process of sorting out a new contract at the Nou Camp and, in doing so, has put to bed rumours that he could be on his way to the Premier League.
This summer, Neymar was linked with a move to Man United amid reports he was searching for a new challenge.
There were claims that United had even put a bid in for the striker but a move never seemed close to materialising.
Speaking after his sides 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano, in which Neymar scored four times, the 23-year-old said: “The renewal is under way. I still have years left on my contract. I’m going to sign. The fans can relax.”
It will definitely come as a relief to Barcelona fans to see one of their star players pledge his future to the club. Neymar is currently La Liga’s top scorer and will be hoping to thrive in the absence of Lionel Messi as the Argentine recovers from injury.
It is hard to say whether Neymar is just another one of those players who used a potential move to United as a bargaining chip in order to get a better deal from his club.
It will not come as a shock to United fans that Neymar has decided to stay. Not many United fans would have expected the striker to leave a team that are attempting to retain the Champions League for the first time in its history while playing alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez. His renewal, once it is finalised, will be a mere formality and United can move on from any sliver of hope they had of signing Neymar.
