Predicted XI: CSKA Moscow vs Manchester United

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea – Sorry Sergio Romero, you’re not getting off the bench.

Antonio Valencia – If Matteo Darmian does move to left-back, he’s the straight replacement.

Chris Smalling – Don’t think Louis van Gaal can afford to rest his best defender for what is an important game.

Phil Jones Back in the team against Everton and struck a good partnership with Smalling. Should start again.

Matteo Darmian – Think Marcos Rojo will need a rest if he’s to be fit for the Manchester derby, hence why Darmian has switched to left-back here.

Michael Carrick – Bastian Schweinsteiger needs a rest and Carrick will be eager to get back into action.

Morgan Schneiderlin – Dynamo against Everton. Not sure why he was ever dropped from the team in the first place.

Ander Herrera If Schneiderlin was a dynamo, Herrera was a messenger from the midfield gods. Simply has to start.

Memphis Depay – Europe seems to be where Memphis flourishes at the moment, so let him loose against CSKA Moscow.

Wayne Rooney – Back among the goals thanks to his one against Everton, will the floodgates open up again?

Anthony Martial Would personally like to see Martial rested, we’ll see if van Gaal agrees.

Formation – 4-2-3-1 – This will almost shape like a 4-5-1 which is a formation that Sir Alex Ferguson used so much over the years away from home in the UEFA Champions League.
