Former Manchester United midfielder Angel Di Maria is coming under criticism at his new club, Paris Saint-Germain.
Di Maria was taken off as the French champions were held to a 0-0 draw against Real Madrid this week. The 27-year-old has three goals in his first nine appearances for the Parisians but his recent form has let him down and he may be starting to feel the pressure.
Di Maria was never able to adapt to the Premier League at Man United and was sold after just 12 months at the club. A player who promised so much with his early displays eventually turned out to be one of the worst signings in the club’s history and things could be going the same way in the French capital.
Former PSG man Jean-Michel Larque voiced his concerns over the winger.
“(PSG) are in the business of image and communication. We sell a dream,” he said.
“I do not want to break this dream of the fans but I did not think PSG seriously increased their chances of winning the Champions League when we announced the signing of Angel Di Maria.”
Di Maria will be looking to get his career back on track after his dismal time at Old Trafford. There is no doubting his talent, despite his failures in the Premier League, and the former Benfica man was expected to easily negotiate the challenges in Ligue 1. The Argentine has struggled with injury since he left Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 and will want to ensure an extended run in the PSG side and a huge improvement in his performances in order to get himself back to the level he and the rest of the world expects him to be.
