Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that the squad have taken it easy in training this week in an effort to avoid injuries.
Man United travelled to Moscow early this week before taking on CSKA in a tough Champions League fixture.
The squad have had no time to rest on their laurels as they prepare to welcome Manchester City to Old Trafford on Sunday.
Van Gaal insisted he has taken every precaution in order to get the players in the best possible shape for the derby.
“We’ve done everything to help the recovery of the players. We didn’t train too hard today, to avoid injuries,” van Gaal said.
“We have one day less [to prepare after Moscow flight] but we have to do it and that’s what we’re doing. We hope we can beat City.”
United will need to be in top form to beat City, who played at home in the Champions League against Sevilla this week. Traditionally, teams have struggled in the Premier League the weekend after an away fixture in Europe but the hope is that the medical team at United have helped the squad to fully recover.
