Manuel Pellegrini confirms Manchester City quintet will miss derby

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has confirmed that he will be without as many as five first-team players when his side travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on Sunday.

David Silva and Sergio Aguero will be unavailable for the huge clash, giving Man United a huge boost going into the game. Samir Nasri, Fabian Delph and Gael Clichy are all injured as well and City will know that they are missing a big chunk of their squad.

The news that Silva and Aguero will not be fit in time could play a major part on the outcome of the game.

Both are players who have devastated Man United in the past and are hugely important for City and it will be interesting to see how they perform in their absence.

“Silva, Aguero, Nasri, Delph & Clichy will miss the derby. Maybe next week one or two of them can start working with the team.” Pellegrini said.

The Sky Blues have a large squad and five injuries will not mean they are out of contention by any means. With Vincent Kompany expected to return from a calf injury, City will get a boost of their own as they look to stay ahead of United in the Premier League.

However, the Reds will know that they are facing their rivals at the perfect time. With City so depleted, it could be the perfect opportunity for United to get one over their ‘noisy neighbours’ and draw first blood in the title race, even so early in the season. City, of course, still have players who are more than capable of damaging the hosts on Sunday. The likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling will almost certainly be threats but if United can keep them quiet, they may be halfway to securing all three points at Old Trafford.
