Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes Anthony Martial has “everything” he needs to become a success at Old Trafford.
Martial scored Man United’s equaliser in the Champions League game against CSKA Moscow on Wednesday, his fifth goal in just nine appearances for the club. Since signing from Monaco on transfer deadline day, Martial has become a regular in United’s first-team and one of the side’s most crucial players.
After his goal against CSKA, Hargreaves admitted that he has been hugely impressed by Martial.
His header in Moscow won a valuable point for United and Hargreaves was full of praise for the player.
Speaking after the game, Hargreaves said: “What a player he is.
“He has everything, that physique. I was amazed even in Eindhoven, for a 19-year-old to be able to pin the centre-backs, to be able to get the ball into feet and set people up.”
Martial has shown on numerous occasions that he is a multidimensional forward. He can run in behind defences with his blistering pace or even take the ball to feet and hold it up but his decision making is what has caught Hargreaves’s eye.
He added: “The most important thing for a young player is knowing when to do what on a football pitch, and he has that. He has a feel for where to be at the right times, and even against Wolfsburg he did the right things.”
There is no doubting the talent Martial has shown since arriving at Old Trafford. Since his debut goal against Liverpool, the 19-year-old hasn’t looked back and seems to be proving his worth time and time again.
After a lot was made about the fee United paid for the youngster, a reported £36m, Martial has already begun to justify Louis van Gaal‘s decision. The manager placed his faith in the striker and he has not disappointed. His solo strike against Liverpool put him on the map and another crucial goal in the Manchester derby on Sunday could see him rise to hero status, less than two months after joining the club.
