Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed what sort of players he is looking to bring to Old Trafford in the coming transfer windows.
The Dutchman has been busy in the transfer market since taking over at Man United, bringing in 12 players over the last two summers alone. However, he is not stopping there, confirming that there is still work that needs to be done on the squad.
This summer, van Gaal insisted that United needed a player with ‘speed and creativity’ but were unable to secure the services of Pedro, who eventually went to Chelsea.
Anthony Martial joined the club instead and has definitely brought some unpredictability to the attack but the manager is still looking for more.
“I have already said, in the transfer period, I could not buy every player I want and that’s also because of the market,” van Gaal said.
“I have said that we need creative, speedy players in attack. You have seen which players I have bought; I like that profile, but we need more. I think that all the players I want do want to come. It is not a question of the players, it is a question of the clubs who are stopping them.”
It is encouraging to hear van Gaal say that players do want to come and play under him at United. Even if clubs do not want to let certain players come to Old Trafford, United’s spending power and the ability to outbid almost anyone in the market could help hugely in terms of acquisitions.
Van Gaal’s call for a more creative player in the final third will be music to United fans’ ears. The team have looked short of ideas in the final third and have lacked quality on occasion, particularly in the derby against Manchester City, and the sort of player who can unlock a defence with a moment of magic would be ideal.
