Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira hopeful of start against Middlesbrough

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira is hoping to be picked for the Capital One Cup tie against Middlesbrough on Wednesday.

The youngster made his full Man United debut in their last game in the competition and shone when he opened his account for the Reds with a delightful free-kick in front of the Stretford End.

Pereira certainly put in a brilliant all-round performance on the night and will want the chance to impress again when Middlesbrough come to Old Trafford.

Since going on the club’s pre-season tour, Pereira has been in and around the first-team. After making his debut he also made his first Champions League appearance against Wolfsburg and fans will expect to see him in action against ‘Boro, if only for another free-kick opportunity.

“If a free-kick appears and you’ve been practising, you sometimes have a feeling you will score. You feel confident and it’s a very good feeling when the ball goes in,” Pereira told manutd.com.

“I spend a lot of time practising them, but I also try to improve everything, not especially one thing. I practise my free-kicks, my shooting, my dribbling – everything. I hope I get another opportunity [on Wednesday] and I hope I can show the manager and impress everyone in the stadium and my teammates.”

Pereira didn’t play for the U21s on Monday in their 1-0 over Sunderland, which is a clear suggestion that he could be involved with the first-team. With many senior players expected to be given a rest for the game, it would be another perfect opportunity for the young Brazilian to show everyone what he is all about.
