Manchester United fans blast awful Wayne Rooney following display against Middlesbrough

Wayne Rooney put in another turgid display as Manchester United were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Middlesbrough on Wednesday evening.

Rooney replaced James Wilson at half time but struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old rarely fashioned chances for himself and was shackled with relative ease by the visitors. His penalty was eventually saved in the shootout to cap off an awful night.

United supporters seem to be in agreement that enough is enough when it comes to Rooney’s continued inclusion in the team:

Rooney’s displays have been detrimental to the team but Louis van Gaal has so far resisted calls to drop his captain.

It would be no surprise to see Rooney play against Crystal Palace this weekend and it would be no surprise to see him put in another awful shift. If United are to be successful this term, van Gaal needs to change his mind over the striker.
