Louis van Gaal confirms double injury blow for Manchester United

by Ben Topliss

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Memphis Depay and James Wilson picked up injuries in the midweek Capital One Cup defeat against Middlesbrough this week.

Meanwhile, Antonio Valencia and Paddy McNair remain sidelined and will miss the game against Crystal Palace this weekend.

It is unclear how long the quartet will be out for as van Gaal said “we have to wait and see”.

The injuries to Memphis and Wilson, in particular, will be disappointing for the pair as they would have wanted to impress after seeing their first-team opportunities limited in recent weeks.

The defeat against Middlesbrough was a desperately disappointing one and van Gaal will be keen for his side to bounce back against Palace.

Palace manager Alan Pardew has some injury problems of his own ahead of the clash, as the likes of Jason Puncheon and Yohan Cabaye are struggling with knocks.
