The striker kept his place in the starting line up despite his recent form but was once again underwhelming as Man United were lucky to come away with a point.
Rooney had a plethora of chances but his poor control and lack of pace let him down on numerous occasions.
England’s leading goalscorer has been under huge pressure from the media and fans alike and his most recent performance would have done nothing to help his case. United fans and pundits want Rooney out of the team because of how awful he has been and they made their feelings known:
I watch on hoping to see more than a few passes, a bit of defending & the ball bounce off Rooney when deep down I know I'll see just that.

Rooney too slow to capitalise on Martial excellence.
"Just give him chances and he'll score," – Scholes is ludicrous.

If Martial had been on the end of his own pass then it would have been 1-0 to #mufc Sadly Rooney looked slow

It may be about time that Louis van Gaal finally considers dropping his skipper. Rooney seems like the only player in the squad who is guaranteed to start every game, no matter how he performs. It has got to the point where the centre forward’s displays are hampering the team’s chances and things definitely need to change.
United have failed to score in their last three games and Rooney has been a part of the reason why. His movement, touch and finishing have all deserted him recently and it may be time for him to make way. Anthony Martial has been one of United’s best players in recent games and there are plenty of calls for him to play up top. The Frenchman has impressed on the left hand side but could be even more threatening playing through the middle but it can only happen if van Gaal is willing to drop Rooney.
