Manchester United fans frustrated with Matteo Darmian following performance against Crystal Palace

Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian put in a poor shift during his side’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Italian regained his place at right-back following the injury to Antonio Valencia but struggled against both Wilfried Zaha and Yannick Bolasie.

Darmian picked up a booking in the second half before being replaced by Ashley Young. The 25-year-old always seemed at risk of getting sent off until Louis van Gaal decided to take him out of the action.

Darmian has been out of sorts recently and has seen a huge drop in form after a great start to his Man United career. He was one of the Reds most consistent performers during the first month of the season but has since been unable to replicate his displays and United fans and pundits were disappointed with him:

Darmian’s yellow card now means he is suspended for United’s next Premier League game at home to West Bromwich Albion and it may be a blessing in disguise for the full-back. The former Torino man is showing signs of struggling to adapt to the Premier League and may be better off working hard to regain his form.

United will know that Darmian’s poor run is only the start of their problems, as they failed to score for the third game in a row. The defence was lucky to keep a clean sheet against Palace and will know that they must improve in time for the visit of West Brom.
