Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has urged his team to recover from the stalemate against Crystal Palace on Saturday and find the back of the net against CSKA Moscow next time out.
The Reds played out a dull 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in the Premier League, the third consecutive game that they have failed to score.
Man United failed to create many clear cut chances and seemed short of ideas in the final third. Ander Herrera and Wayne Rooney both had good chances to break the deadlock but neither could provide the moment of quality the side needed.
United welcome CSKA Moscow to Old Trafford in the Champions League in midweek hoping to break their poor run. The Reds could only manage a 1-1 draw with the Russian side in Moscow and will know they need a win. With just four days between games, van Gaal has warned that his players must recover in time.
When asked what he can do different after the Palace draw, van Gaal said: ”I cannot do anything anymore because we cannot train: we can only recover and recover.
“We have to score in the next match and then everybody will be happy again, and especially against CSKA Moscow it is very important to score.”
United are far from secure in their Champions League group and a win at home is vital. However, given their recent form, it is hard to see where they will find a goal from. With Wayne Rooney firing blanks, there are plenty of calls for Anthony Martial to play through the middle and the Frenchman could be the answer to United’s problems. Only time will tell if van Gaal is willing to drop his captain but fans are certainly advocating for their striker to be benched for the big clash.
