Predicted XI: Manchester United vs CSKA Moscow

by Sam Peoples

David de Gea – No thanks Sergio Romero.

Ashley Young – Matteo Darmian is suspended for the West Brom game so I can see Louis van Gaal playing Young there to get him used to the role.

Chris Smalling – Manchester United’s rock at the back.

Daley Blind – With Phil Jones back on the injury table, Blind will become Man United’s centre-back again.

Marcos Rojo Has been good to see Rojo playing well at left-back.

Michael Carrick – With Morgan Schneiderlin missing training, Carrick will step in unless the Frenchman is passed fit to play.

Marouane Fellaini – Don’t think Bastian Schweinsteiger will have the legs to play.

Wayne Rooney – We’ve gone for Rooney in the No.10 role, out of pure optimism and hope more than anything else.

Juan Mata He’s a bit out of form at the moment and could see Jesse Lingard starting but with Memphis Depay on the other wing, Mata’s experience might be needed.

Memphis Depay – The Champions League is where Memphis has played his best football this season and it needs to be where van Gaal starts him.

Anthony Martial – Our best striker by a long mile and it’s a travesty he hasn’t been playing there every week.

Formation: 4-2-3-1 – To allow Wayne Rooney to play in the No.10 role, van Gaal will need to play with two defensive minded midfielders and that’s why we’ve gone with the 4-2-3-1.
