Rooney has been a Nike athlete for over a decade now but with Adidas having signed the most lucrative kit deal in history with Man United, they will want the club captain representing them as well. The German company are paying the Reds a reported £75 million a year for the next decade and will want to get the best bang for their buck possible.
Signing Rooney would be a huge coup for Adidas, who have in recent years turned their attention to signing more top teams and players to wear their gear. United’s skipper would join the likes of Gareth Bale and Lionel Messi as part of a group of players sponsored by Adidas.
The 30-year-old has been underwhelming this season with just two goals to his name in the Premier League. His all-round performances have been poor and there are plenty of calls for him to be dropped to the bench for the visit of CSKA Moscow this week. England’s leading goal scorer desperately needs to put in a good showing in the Champions League in an attempt to regain at least some form as United try to get their season back on track.
Rooney doesn’t seem to be helping himself or the team at the moment and his displays are certainly a worry for United. The Reds will know that their captain needs to bounce back as quickly as possible to get going again this campaign.
