Manchester United: De Gea; Young, Smalling, Blind, Rojo; Carrick, Schweinsteiger; Lingard, Mata, Rooney; Martial

Subs: Romero, Jones, Darmian, Pereira, Herrera, Memphis, Fellaini

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has shaken up his attacking quartet for the Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow this evening.

Following fierce criticism of his side’s attacking performances, van Gaal has decided to start Anthony Martial up top with Wayne Rooney in the No.10 role.

Ander Herrera drops to the substitute’s bench, meaning Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard line up on the wings.

Meanwhile, Michael Carrick starts alongside Bastian Schweinsteiger in the middle of the park.

The decision to start Martial up top, in particular, is an interesting one. Fans have been clamouring for Rooney to be dropped in order for Martial to play as a striker and they have somewhat got their wish. Van Gaal has been stubborn in recent weeks but he has appeared to have relaxed his stance. How it works against CSKA remains to be seen.
