Manchester United defender Daley Blind was happy to come away with all three points after the Reds scraped to a 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow.
The Dutchman kept his place in the side from the draws with both Middlesbrough and Crystal Palace and had a relatively quiet evening, as Man United went top of their group in the Champions League. It was another game where Louis van Gaal‘s men dominated possession but struggled to carve out any clear cut chances.
Wayne Rooney‘s winner deep into the second half was welcomed with a huge, collective sigh of relief at Old Trafford as the forwards finally managed to find the back of the net. Blind and Chris Smalling in the centre of defence dealt well with the threat both Ahmed Musa and Seydou Doumbia, when the latter came on and were rarely troubled. CSKA’s only real chance saw United saved by a fantastic bit of defending from Smalling, who through his body across goal to block a low Doumbia effort.

United fans will be happy to see Blind regaining some of his form from the early parts of the season. The 25-year-old formed a formidable partnership with Smalling and didn’t concede a goal for their first Premier League games. The pair were beginning to look like the perfect solution to United’s centre-back problem, especially given Smalling’s impeccable performances.
However, following Holland’s failure to qualify for next summer’s European, Blind fell out of favour at his club as well and saw Phil Jones get back to full fitness and replace him in the team. However, with the Englishman now injured, Blind has the opportunity to regain his place in the side and three clean sheets in a row with him in the heart of defence will certainly help his cause.
