Manchester United consider triple swoop after sending scouts to watch Champions League tie

Manchester United scouts were on hand to watch Gent beat Valencia in the Champions League this week, with their focus on as many as three players, according to reports.

Shokdran Mustafi, Jose Luis Gaya and Andre Gomes, all playing for Valencia, were reportedly the men that Louis van Gaal ordered his scouts to keep a close eye on as the Reds start to look towards what signings they will make in January.

The trio were unable to help their team to a good result on Wednesday, however, as they were beaten 1-0 by the Belgian side.

Gaya and Mustafi, both defenders, have been linked with Man United before and the scouts being spotted at their game is sure to add fuel to the fire.

United were reportedly interested in making a move for Gaya in September, following the horror injury to Luke Shaw. The left-back was recently called up to the Spain national side for the first time and is a good prospect.

Andre Gomes is a name that, surprisingly, hasn’t been linked with a move to United before. The 22-year-old made the move from Benfica this year and has impressed during his start to life in La Liga. He is a central midfielder with an eye for goal, who would certainly add a different dimension to United’s struggling attack.

Scouts from the club being at the game is, of course, no indication as to whether the Reds will choose to make a move for any of the players on show that night. Louis van Gaal is known to keep a close eye on players that show potential but not always does it involve United trying to sign the individual. That could be the case where Valencia are concerned but United fans would certainly love to see a new name at Old Trafford come January.
