Jesse Lingard‘s game-changing goal against West Bromwich Albion was the defining moment in Manchester United’s win on Saturday.
The 22-year-old’s brilliant finish from outside the box gave Man United the advantage and although West Brom pushed forward in the latter stages, Anthony Martial‘s breakaway led to a foul in the box and Juan Mata‘s clinical penalty gave Louis van Gaal‘s side a deserved 2-0 win.
After waiting so long for his opportunity in the first-team, Lingard has scored a goal and got an assist in his last two performances and is showing he is more than ready to be a key member of van Gaal’s side.
There is plenty for Lingard to improve but he’s showed fantastic raw potential in the last two games. His desire to run at defenders and be direct with the ball is refreshing because United have lacked that on the wings this year, so it’s no surprise to see him starting right now.
Van Gaal will be delighted with Lingard’s performance and so will Jesse himself. After cruelly suffering a serious injury on his first-team debut last year against Swansea, he is now on the way up and long may it continue.
