Lingard’s goal against West Brom proved to be the momentum changing moment for Manchester United and it was his first goal in front of the Stretford End, a moment he won’t ever forget.
After suffering a cruel injury on his full Man United debut last year during the first game of the season, Lingard has had to be extremely patient but van Gaal never lost sight of his potential.
That show of faith by van Gaal has been rewarded by Lingard and is a testament to the fact that youth can provide the answers if they get the right chances at the right times.
Van Gaal says #mufc rejected loan offers for Lingard in the summer. McClaren wanted him at Newcastle.

LvG: 'I said to him (Lingard) I want to keep him. He has to wait for the moment…since he is playing he is playing very well.'

Van Gaal spotted something in Lingard which he liked, more so than Adnan Januzaj who he was prepared to let leave on a loan deal, and he’s certainly become influential in United’s team right now.
It’s Lingard’s direct style which has got the fans smiling. Like Anthony Martial, he’s not afraid to run at defenders and put them on the back foot and that makes him such a dangerous player.
Now that he’s developed and matured, Lingard can hopefully use this as the beginning of his senior career at United and the early signs certainly indicate he’s ready for the step up on a permanent basis.
