Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he wants “to buy a lot of players” but that he may be disappointed as some of them are not for sale.
Despite the additions of Matteo Darmian, Sergio Romero, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay in the summer transfer window, the Dutch manager is still looking to bring more faces in.
Van Gaal has often claimed that he’s interested in injecting pace into the squad to deal with the attacking issues his side are currently facing.
Man United have been linked with a number of players but van Gaal warned that some of his targets are not available.
“It is dependent for instance on the rehabilitation of Luke Shaw – how long it will last. It is also dependent on what I can buy. I want to buy a lot of players but not all the players I want are for sale. So there are a lot of factors in it.
“I have said already in my first year many times we need speed and creativity on the wings. Now we play with Jesse Lingard and he is not the most speedy winger in the world, and Mata is also not the most speedy winger in the world.
“So first we must first finish that problem and then we can see how we play and how we are in balance with playing with speedy wingers.”
Van Gaal has shown during his time at United that he likes his players to be multi-functional and capable of playing a variety of roles. The winter transfer window will be an interesting one, which could potentially decide how successful the team is this term.
