Juan Mata has praised Manchester United’s defence following the 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
Mata added a late penalty after Jesse Lingard had opened the scoring with his first senior goal for the club.
A number of teams around Man United in the Premier League dropped points over the course of the weekend and it was a good result for Louis van Gaal’s side.
Mata was full of praise for United’s defence after they secured fifth consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.
“Our defensive streak is very good after four consecutive Premier League games unbeaten. Being solid will make us strong when things get tough,” Mata said.
United have had problems from an attacking point of view this season but they have been excellent at the other end of the pitch. A large part of that has to do with the superb form of players such as Chris Smalling and van Gaal deserves credit for giving them the confidence to succeed.
