Manchester United’s on-loan Joel Castro Pereira put in a Man of the Match winning performance on his debut for Rochdale.
The young goalkeeper saved a penalty and put in plenty of saves but ultimately wasn’t able to help Rochdale beat Morecambe as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.

Regardless of the result, it sounds like Pereira can be very proud of his debut and he’ll be delighted with that.
Pereira is currently on a one-month loan move at Rochdale and manager Keith Hill will no doubt have been impressed with how the youngster dealt with himself.
He will return to the club soon but with performances like that, there’s every chance another club will want to bring him in and give him that valuable first-team experience which every youngster needs to grow.
Having signed a new deal with Man United earlier this year, Pereira intends to work hard and try to follow in the footsteps of David de Gea as the first-team No.1
He’s got a long path ahead of him but all he can do is keep his head down, work hard and take the most of his opportunities, just like he did on his debut for Rochdale. Well done Joel.
