Adnan Januzaj’s agent defends Belgian over claims he has a ‘bad state of mind’

Adnan Januzaj‘s agent has defended his client following criticism from Belgium U21 boss Enzo Scifo over an alleged bad attitude.

The 20-year-old was sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund by Louis van Gaal at the end of the summer but is yet to start in the Bundesliga.

Januzaj was subsequently demoted to the Belgium U21 side due to his lack of playing time but he pulled out of the most recent squad, choosing to stay at Dortmund.

This prompted criticism from Scifo but Januzaj’s agent, Dirk de Vriese, insisted the youngster does not have an attitude problem.

“There is no question of a bad state of mind. Adnan focuses on his work and we plan the rest. Do not point the finger,” De Vriese said.

“(Borussia Dortmund) are doing well and is a real machine. The current Dortmund is one of the best teams in Europe.

“Remember that Adnan did not have pre-season with them. Dortmund have given him time to adapt and we must do the same.

“When Gundogan and Lewandowski arrived they were there all the way through the pre-season period and took six months to find their rhythm.”

When Manchester United fans think of Januzaj, the majority remember his breakthrough season under David Moyes in 2013/14, where if not for his stellar performances, the club would have struggled to finish even in seventh. However, two years on, and the youngster has failed to recreate the form which made him such a phenomenon during his debut season, with a move abroad to Dortmund so far ineffective.

However, fans who have watched him know the youngster’s talents, and will hope that with a run of games, and the trust of van Gaal, who has given debuts to the likes of Xavi and Andres Iniesta during his time as a manager, Januzaj will be able to achieve the huge promise he showed when making his debut for the club.
