Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia faces up to five months out – report

Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia faces up to five months on the sidelines as he recovers from a foot injury, according to reports.

The Ecuadorian had surgery on his foot this week after suffering an injury in last month’s goalless Manchester derby.

Valencia tweeted a picture of himself from his hospital bed on Tuesday with his leg wrapped in bandages, saying that he “came out well” from the operation.

However, The Sun claim he damaged a bone above his left foot and that he may have caused further damage by not leaving the pitch immediately.

Man United have not set a timescale for his return but the defender could be set for a lengthy absence.

If true, the news will be worrying for Louis van Gaal as his defensive options become thinner and thinner. Ashley Young and Matteo Darmian will be left as United’s only real options at right-back, although Paddy McNair can play there if necessary.
