David Beckham believes Cristiano Ronaldo should return to Manchester United as he regrets having never had the chance to do so.
Ronaldo joined Man United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 before leaving for Real Madrid in 2009.
Beckham made the same move to Madrid in 2003 and spent time at LA Galaxy, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan prior to hanging up his boots.
The former England captain insisted Ronaldo should be doing all he can to end his career at Old Trafford.
“Cristiano is such a fans’ favourite here, and if he decides to leave Real Madrid then for me personally the only place he should come is back to United,” Beckham said.
“I’d never advise any player not to return to Old Trafford – when I left I’d have crawled back if I could!
“Cristiano was so successful here, such a hard worker, everyone you talk to that has played with him, been around his world, he’s not just one of the most talented players in the game, he’s a hard worker as well.
“I never had the opportunity to do that, and I’m proud of the teams I played for after United. But for me, I always think Old Trafford is where the journey should end.”
Ronaldo has often spoke of his affection for United since leaving the club and fans would be delighted if he was to return someday. However, a move would require huge outlay from United. It remains to be seen if the club firm up an offer next summer.
