David James believes Manchester United are strong in the goalkeeper’s position following the signing of Sergio Romero this summer.
However, De Gea’s proposed move to Real Madrid fell through, meaning Romero has now taken up a role as second-choice keeper.
James insisted Romero, who was linked with a move to Liverpool before he moved to Old Trafford, was a quality signing.
“The signing went under the radar a little, but I like him and I think the goalkeeper position at United is strong. I just hope Liverpool fans aren’t reading this!”
There were question marks hanging over the futures of De Gea, Victor Valdes and Anders Lindegaard in the final few weeks of the transfer window and the situation was threatening to become farcical. Thankfully, things seem to have been ironed out over the course of the campaign, although Valdes continues to be frozen out having fallen out with van Gaal.
