Manchester United are interested in signing FC Schalke winger Leroy Sane, according to the Sun.
The 19-year-old is touted to be one of Germany’s most promising youngsters and made his debut for the national side in their defeat to France on Friday. Full of pace and trickery, Sane would be exactly the sort of player Louis van Gaal has been saying he needs at Man United and it now seems as if the manager is keeping a close eye on the young prodigy.
Sane is a speedy left-footer who can play on either wing and is a massive threat when running at defenders. Van Gaal has insisted on many occasions that he is still after a player on the wings with both ‘speed and creativity’ and Sane certainly fits the bill.
The German has been at Schalke for more than four years and made his breakthrough into the first team last year. At just 19, Sane already has seven senior goals to his name from just 25 appearances and he is reportedly also a target for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
It would be a huge coup for United if they were to sign the promising midfielder, having already snatched up Anthony Martial this summer. The possibility of another young, quick squad member who can play on the wings could be a sign that the Reds are trying to get back to playing the brand of football United fans have become accustomed to over the past couple of decades.
Van Gaal’s men have looked slightly short of ideas in front of goal at times this season and Sane would provide the unpredictability needed in the final third. A move for him in January should not be ruled out and he could provide the extra spark United need going into the title run-in at the end of the season.
