Jesse Lingard trained with England’s senior squad this week for the first time after being called up by Roy Hodgson.
The 22-year-old has been enjoying some fantastic form with Manchester United and was rewarded with his first call up to England as a consequence.
For Lingard, a place in the squad is the culmination of lots of hard work. After such a cruel injury on his Man United debut in 2014, he’s had to stay focused mentally and physically in order to be in the position he currently finds himself.
There’s no guarantee he’ll get any minutes in the friendly against France on Tuesday but it won’t matter to Lingard because simply being called up is a big step in the right direction for his career.
