Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo dismisses rumours of a rift with Louis van Gaal

Manchester United’s Marcos Rojo has dismissed reports suggesting he has a strained relationship with Louis van Gaal.

Rojo reportedly fell out with van Gaal after the Argentine failed to make the pre-season tour of the United States due to passport issues.

The defender missed a large part of the start of the campaign but he has played a crucial role in recent weeks having started Man United’s last seven games in all competitions.

Rojo insisted he has no problem with van Gaal despite the rumours.

“It is normal, as with any other coach,” Rojo said when asked about his relationship with the Dutchman.

“I don’t ask him why he includes me in a game when I play, so I don’t have any right in asking him why I don’t play when he decides that I don’t have to do it. It’s as simple as that.

“Van Gaal does the same as any coach in the world. He decides who plays according to what he sees during the week, he chooses the players that he sees in the best condition and we have to accept all the decisions that the coach takes. He is a very professional coach, he wants to get out the very best from each one – that doesn’t mean that he is rough.

“He wants his work to have success and we have to understand what he expects from each one of us.”

Van Gaal has a reputation as an authoritative figure but he seems to have the respect of the majority of his players. Of course, there are some, such as the currently frozen out Victor Valdes, who wouldn’t be quite so complimentary of the veteran manager, but van Gaal has undoubtedly brought a unity to the squad.
