Manchester United are plotting a £150m double swoop for Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben and Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, according to the Star.
Man United reportedly received significant encouragement in their pursuit of Bale this week.
Van Gaal’s side have struggled from an offensive point of view this season and the signings of Bale and Robben would inject a huge amount of quality into the squad.
United’s finances are in a healthy position and they would be able to afford the outlay on the pair, although Robben won’t be a long-term option as he is 31. That being said, there aren’t many, or any, wingers who have become better since turning 30 and Robben certainly knows how to operate under Louis van Gaal having been one of his best players at the 2014 World Cup.
More immediately, United have been linked with the likes of Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez and Bournemouth’s Matt Ritchie as they look to bolster their ranks in the January transfer window.
