Manchester United are edging towards the signing of Arjen Robben, with the Bayern Munich forward reportedly unsettled at the Bundesliga club due to a rift with Robert Lewandowski, according to reports.
Bild claim Lewandowski is unhappy with Robben’s selfishness on the ball which, to be fair, might not be that far removed from the truth but that’s the style of play which has made Robben such a lethal player over the years because his end product is excellent.
Man United have reported been alerted to the friction between the pair and are preparing to launch a bid for Robben in the January transfer window.
Given his age, reports claim that 31-year-old Robben would be available for a price similar to the one United paid for Bastian Schweinsteiger this summer.
Robben would be a fantastic signing in the short-term but questions have to be asked as to whether we should start operating on a transfer policy like that, although Bastian Schweinsteiger wasn’t far off that age when he was signe in the summer.
However, there is a question mark over whether or not Bayern would want to sell one of their star assets mid-season, rift or no rift. Robben would also not represent much of a long-term option and he may hinder the progress of the likes of Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay.
