Manchester United winger Memphis Depay got himself back amongst the goals in a crucial victory away at Watford.
With injuries to the likes of Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial, Memphis found himself in the starting lineup for the first time in over a month. The Dutchman was deployed through the middle to begin with and justified Louis van Gaal‘s decision to start him within 15 minutes of the games commencement.
Memphis got onto the end of Ander Herrera‘s brilliant cross to nonchalantly volley past Heurelho Gomes in the Watford goal. It was a real striker’s finish from the player who has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League. Depay marked his return to the team with an impressive display and Man United fans were delighted to see him hitting the heights they expect.
Memphis looking 100 times better for us today 👌

Delightful football between Memphis, Schneiderlin and Mata. Much better from United.

Thought Rooney's finish against France was a clinical striker's goal. That from Memphis was better

Memphis takes far too long to make a decision.
Been better today, but still not sharp enough.

Memphis was moved to the left hand side in the second half as he and Jesse Lingard continued to interchange in the final third. It was a much more mature performance from the 21-year-old who has come under heavy criticism for his poor form so far this season. Van Gaal demanded more from Memphis and will be happy to see the youngster take his words to heart.
This sort of win and display can do wonders for both the team and Memphis individually going forward this season. Depay got his chance due to injuries and grasped it with both hands. It could be a goal that galvanises the midfielder and, hopefully, it can give him some much-needed confidence going into the busy Christmas period and the title run-in.
