Player Ratings: Watford 1-2 Manchester United – Hero David de Gea

by Leo Nieboer

David De Gea 9 Another practically faultless performance from the 25-year-old, making a spectacular save after Smalling deflected the ball goal-wards

Ashley Young 7 Energetic, controlled and devoted to the cause as usual, this time in the unfamiliar right-back slot

Chris Smalling 7 No ceasing in brilliance from United’s player of the season so far, who once again expertly led United’s line

Phil Jones 6 A generally solid performance, but concerns over his injury-prone nature remain

Daley Blind 6 Adapted well to the wing-back slot, creating some wonderful pieces of play on the left hand side – albeit with a few mistakes on the side

Bastian Schweinsteiger 8 The German ran the show from midfield, and his injury time winner could be vital in the context of United’s title charge

Morgan Schneiderlin 7 Another quietly effective game from the Frenchman, who seems to be developing brilliantly alongside Schweinsteiger in midfield

Jesse Lingard 6 Once again, the youngster brought sprightliness and energy to the game, but wasted two great chances

Ander Herrera 6 Begun the game brilliantly with a sumptuous assist for Memphis’ goal, before being unfortunately forced off through injury after 23 minutes

Juan Mata 6 Linked up nicely with the frontmen, habitually exhibiting some lovely touches on the ball,  but lacked conviction

Memphis Depay 8 A welcome return to form for the Dutchman in the No.9 role; he took his goal brilliantly and pestered Watford’s back four all afternoon

Marcos Rojo 6 An assured, calm performance up until his poor foul that gifted Watford their penalty

Paddy McNair 6 Looked relatively settled after such a long absence from the first XI

Andreas Pereira N/A
