Martial made the move to Man United from Monaco on transfer deadline day this summer and became the world’s most expensive teenager in the process. The Frenchman came to Old Trafford as somewhat of an unknown quantity but burst onto the scene with a fantastic debut goal against Liverpool.
His brief cameo against United’s arch rivals showed the talent that Martial possesses and even Mata was surprised by the youngsters talent. The Spaniard admitted to knowing about the 19-year-old before he arrived at United but was taken aback by the ability he showed in training.
Speaking to FullTimeDevils in an interview, Mata said: “I knew Martial was a good player but I didn’t know he was that good, from the first day he was training with us you could tell he had something special.
“He has everything to be a perfect striker. He’s tall, fast, quick and has ability. He’s also very young so hopefully he’ll be a good signing this season and for the seasons to come.”
Martial has arguably been one of United’s most important players this season. Since making his debut, he is yet to put in a below-par performance and always seems to make things happen in the final third.
The Reds haven’t been at their attacking best this season, but Martial has been the saving grace. His impact can’t be understated and United fans will be waiting with baited breath for him to develop to be the best he possibly can.
