Four Manchester United youngsters train ahead of PSV game

James Weir, Guillermo Varela, Nick Powell and Sean Goss all trained with Manchester United’s first-team ahead of the PSV Eindhoven game.

Three of those players have previously trained with the first-team this season but it’s the first time for Powell after spending nearly a year on the sidelines with a serious injury.

After returning for Man United’s U21s last night, it’s fantastic to see Powell back in and amongst the first-team players and we’re hoping this is a new beginning for him because he is an exciting young player.

If there’s one thing I am particularly pleased about when it comes to Louis van Gaal, it’s his preference to use a small squad in order to give room for youngsters to progress. Too many times there are players on big wages who simply warm the bench and get frustrated, with young players that doesn’t happen.

Andreas Pereira, Paddy McNair and Jesse Lingard are three fine examples of players who have broken through to take their opportunity and here’s hoping there are plenty more that will follow suit under van Gaal’s tenure at United.
