Martial missed Man United’s game against Watford at the weekend with a foot injury, while Rooney was absent due to illness, but both could well feature in Wednesday’s crucial UEFA Champions League group game.
Strangely enough, United’s first-half attacking performance at Vicarage Road was actually one of their best so far this season and that was without either Martial or Rooney, but it would be a real boost to have them available for selection.
Martial has become the main man in attack for United and he’s a certain starter now when fit. Rooney hasn’t earned that status through his performances but the captain’s armband means he is in the same boat as 19-year-old Martial in that respect.
United’s injury concerns are mounting right now – ten to be exact if you include Rooney and Martial – and with so many games coming up in the festive period, we need as many players fit as possible including this duo.
PSV are going to be a hard nut to crack at Old Trafford just like they were in the Philips Stadion and with qualification for the Champions League knock-out stages only one win away, Louis van Gaal will use Rooney and Martial if they are fit to ensure United are as strong as possible in attack.
